Removing Bats From The Home

Posted on: 19 January 2015

If you have bats within the home, you will want to do whatever necessary to remove them. Bats are carriers of disease and should be removed quickly to lessen the chance of someone getting injured. Here are some methods you can use to help remove bats from within your home.

Calling For Help

The most effective way to remove bats from your home safely is to call a professional pest control service that specializes in bat trapping and removal. When dealing with bats, it is very risky to take on the job yourself. If you were to get bit by a bat, you would need to go through extensive testing for rabies and other diseases.

A professional will be able to remove the bats using a variety of trapping and deterring tricks. Bats are endangered animals in many states, so you will want to make sure not to hurt them in any way. You could also try calling wildlife control in your area for some tips on how to get bats out of your home.

Give Them An Alternate Home

You can place a bat box, made from wood, outside of your home to give bats a new place to roost. Bat boxes are an effective way in getting bats to start-up a new residence, leaving yours behind. You can make your own bat box or you may be able to get one from a conservation office in your area.

Close All Openings

You will want to observe where bats are getting in and out of your home by going outside when it is dusk. You should be able to see bats leaving your home, noting the area in the process. When bats are out and about during the night-time hours, use something to blockade the hole so they do not get back in before dawn. They will take up residence somewhere else if the entryway is blocked.

You will want to do this many nights in a row, taking the blockage away before dusk so any bats that were trapped inside will have a chance to escape. If you do this continuously night after night, you may be able to get all of the bats out of your home on your own without having to touch them at all. This is why it is important to have an alternate home for them to go to when they cannot get back inside.
